DNP 7500 DNP Project II – Implementation
Course OverviewDNP 7500 advances the student through the active implementation phase of the capstone DNP project. With approvals secured and a rigorous project plan in place, students execute their evidence-based practice intervention in the designated clinical or organizational setting. The course focuses on implementation fidelity, real-time monitoring and adaptation, stakeholder engagement, data collection, and preliminary analysis. Students are expected to navigate implementation challenges with agility, document their process systematically, and maintain continuous communication with their faculty advisor, site mentor, and project committee. Weekly structured reflections and progress check-ins ensure accountability and scholarly rigor throughout the implementation period.
Learning Outcomes
•Execute a planned DNP project intervention with fidelity to the approved protocol and timeline.
•Monitor implementation fidelity using systematic tracking tools and adapt strategies as needed.
•Collect primary project data according to the approved evaluation plan and IRB requirements.
•Engage stakeholders effectively throughout the implementation period to sustain project support.
•Document implementation progress, barriers, facilitators, and adaptations in real time.
•Conduct preliminary data analysis to identify emerging trends and inform adaptive implementation.
•Synthesize implementation insights into scholarly progress reports suitable for committee review.
Weekly Schedule & Assignments
Each week builds sequentially toward course and program competency goals. Complete readings before engaging in assignments.
Implementation Launch & Orientation Implementation Launch Plan & Kickoff Memo
Write a 1-page kickoff memo addressed to your project site stakeholders describing: the project purpose, implementation timeline, staff roles and responsibilities, and communication plan. Develop a week-by-week implementation tracking log template. Submit both documents to your faculty advisor and site mentor before the intervention begins.
Participant Recruitment & Enrollment
Document participant recruitment activities for the first two weeks. Submit a completed enrollment log (de-identified) tracking: recruitment contacts, eligibility screens, enrolled participants, and exclusions with reasons. Write a 1-page enrollment status report noting progress toward target sample and any recruitment challenges.
Baseline Data Collection Baseline Data Summary
Complete baseline data collection for all enrolled participants or units. Submit a baseline data summary table presenting descriptive statistics for key demographic and outcome variables. Write a 1-page narrative interpreting the baseline findings and confirming the presence of the identified practice gap in your setting.
Intervention Delivery – Phase 1 Implementation Fidelity Log – Week 4
Deliver the first phase of your intervention per protocol. Complete a structured fidelity log documenting: sessions/contacts completed, participants reached, protocol deviations (if any), and deviation rationale. Write a 1-page reflective entry on facilitators and early barriers encountered during implementation.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication Mid-Implementation Stakeholder Update
Prepare and distribute a mid-implementation stakeholder update (1 page) to key project champions and leadership. Summarize progress to date, highlight early successes, address any concerns, and outline next steps. Obtain written acknowledgment from your site mentor that the update was received and shared.
Implementation Barriers & Adaptive Strategies Barrier Analysis & Adaptation Log
Identify at least three implementation barriers encountered to date. For each barrier, apply an implementation science lens (e.g., CFIR domain) to analyze root causes. Document the adaptive strategy employed. Write a 2-page barrier analysis and adaptation log that will become part of your final project report.
Intervention Delivery – Phase 2 Implementation Fidelity Log – Week 7 & Progress Note
Continue intervention delivery. Submit an updated fidelity log and a 1-page progress note to your faculty advisor addressing: implementation status, participant retention, emerging data patterns, and any protocol modifications requiring committee review or IRB amendment.
Midpoint Data Review & Preliminary Analysis Midpoint Data Analysis Report
Conduct a midpoint review of collected data. Run descriptive statistics on available data using Excel, SPSS, or R. Write a 2-page midpoint data report presenting preliminary findings with tables/figures, interpretation of emerging trends, and any implications for adjusting the remaining implementation period.
Fidelity Monitoring & Quality Checks Fidelity Audit Summary
Conduct a formal fidelity audit of your implementation to date. Compare actual delivery against your protocol checklist item by item. Calculate a fidelity score (percentage of protocol elements delivered as planned). Write a 1-page fidelity audit summary with a plan to address any fidelity gaps in remaining implementation weeks.
Intervention Delivery – Phase 3 Implementation Fidelity Log – Week 10
Continue and if applicable conclude the active intervention phase. Submit a final fidelity log covering all intervention sessions. Write a 1-page reflective narrative on the overall implementation experience: what worked well, what was modified, and what surprised you as a doctoral practice leader.
Data Collection Completion Post-Intervention Data Collection Report
Complete all post-intervention data collection per your evaluation plan. Submit a data collection completion report confirming: all data collection instruments administered, data entry completed, data stored per IRB requirements, and any missing data documented with management strategies. Minimum 1 page with a data completeness table.
Process Evaluation & Implementation Fidelity Summary Process Evaluation Report
Write a 2-page process evaluation report summarizing the implementation phase. Address: reach (who received the intervention), dose (what was delivered vs. planned), fidelity (adherence to protocol), context (organizational factors affecting delivery), and adaptations made. This section will be integrated into your final project report.
Preliminary Outcome Analysis
Conduct a preliminary analysis of your primary and secondary outcome data. Run appropriate descriptive and inferential statistics (pre/post comparisons, t-tests, chi-square, or equivalent). Write a 2-page preliminary outcomes report presenting results with tables and a narrative interpretation. Note limitations and pending final analysis.
Implementation Reflection & Leadership Insights
Write a 2-page scholarly reflection on your experience as a doctoral practice leader during the implementation phase. Address: leadership challenges encountered, how you applied course content (change management, stakeholder engagement, systems thinking) in real time, and how this experience has shaped your professional identity as a DNP-prepared nurse.
Progress Report to Committee DNP Project II Progress Report & Committee Presentation
Compile a formal 5-page progress report summarizing implementation activities, fidelity data, preliminary outcomes, barriers, adaptations, and next steps for final analysis and dissemination in DNP 7600. Present findings to your faculty committee in a 15-minute presentation. Incorporate committee feedback into your DNP 7600 plan.
